FAQs

What to Expect

Creative dance is an expressive and vigorous art form! Class structure and exercises are developmentally focused and aimed at helping your child learn to move her/his body through space with freedom and joy. We dance with props, use varying music, read stories, and even create art projects from time to time. We stretch and strengthen our bodies, use our bodies to the fullest, and also allow time for relaxation. Children learn from watching each other. We build into class time for performance and reflection.

Location

Dragonfly Children’s Creative Dance classes are held in the New Expressive Works studios.  New Expressive Works is located at 810 SE Belmont, Portland OR 97214. (Entrance is the South side door of the WYSE Building.)

Registration

To register before the session begins please visit the Eventbrite registration page and complete the online registration form.  You will receive a confirmation email once registration and payment is received.

Registration for the entire session is encouraged, however prorated mid-term registration will be accepted as space allows and must be done in person or over the phone.  Please contact Sarah at sarah@dragonflychildrensdance.com or 503.893.8378 for more information.

Free Trial Class

Your child is welcome to take one free trial class before registering for the full session.  Please contact Sarah at sarah@dragonflychildrensdance.com or 503.893.8378 for more information and to hold a space.

What to Wear

Please have your dancer wear clothes that she/he can move in easily. Leotards and leggings work well, as do leggings or shorts with a shirt.  Make sure the dancer’s top will stay down when she/he is upside-down.  Dancers move in bare feet.  No socks, socks lead to slipping and falls.  Dancers with long hair need to have their hair pulled back from their face so it is not a distraction to them when moving.

What to Bring

Dancers are encouraged to bring a water bottle.  We have a sink where dancers can refill water bottles if needed.  We have no drinking fountain.

Parents Watching Class and Waiting Area

Parents are welcome to watch the first class if they choose.  Periodically parents and friends will be invited to watch part of a class or perhaps even participate, often at the end of a session. We have a comfortable waiting area with couches where parents can wait.  Because we share the WYSE building with offices we ask that the noise level stays at a low talking level.  Please do not leave siblings unattended in waiting area.

Picking-Up Dancers

Dancers will be released to people only on the registration form.  Please let your teacher know in advance if someone else will be picking-up your dancer.

Parking

There are only two parking spots along side the WYSE building. Feel free to park there if they are available. Otherwise, there is generally plenty of free street parking on the surrounding blocks.

Refunds

Full refunds will be given up to one week before first day of dance class.  Partial refunds of 50% will be given up to first day of class.  Once classes have started no refunds will be issued.

If your dancer has any specific considerations please don’t hesitate to let us know.  We want to make dance a positive experience for everyone!
